You are a brand new homeowner, you live near the edge of town, and are 500m from an elementary school.  Money has been tight ever since you bought your new house, but this all changes when two men in suits show up on your doorstep offering you $50 000 a year for 20 years, to lease your land (a total of one million dollars all together).  Turns out, 1000m below your house, trapped under the shale (a rock), there is a large reservoir of natural gas that this company would like to extract by means of Hydraulic Fracturing, or “fracking”.  You don’t know very much about fracking, so you decide to do a little research, and realize it is a highly controversial issue. You’ll need to do some digging before you immediately say “YES!” to that million dollars.

Is a million dollars worth it? Knowing you might be responsible for causing damage to the environment, human health, and contributing to climate change- and remembering you also live near an elementary school.  City Hall will be holding a meeting next week to discuss your final decision, so you will need to have a letter, or presentation prepared to back up your decision.
